Conducted in February 2018, the survey interviewed 1,000 inactive defined contribution (DC) plan participants. 

Key findings of the survey:

  • Millennials ar more likely than other to be missing participants
  • Low-income households are twice as likely to have missing participants
  • A significant majority of participants - 60% - would prefer an automated process to update their addresses or consolidate their accounts
  • One-third of the participants in the study (includng half of Millennials) learned of a retirement savings account with a previous employer that they didn't know they had.
